Entertainment & Lifestyles: When it comes to recreation and leisure, Appling County has it all. The Appling County Recreation Complex built in 1998 has five 300’ feet, tournament regulation size ball fields equipped with foul poles, dug outs, bleachers, concessions, paved walkways and much more. The Max Deen Memorial Park (Southside) has three softball fields, two tennis courts and a public swimming pool with bathhouse. Westside Park includes the City Gym, playground area, picnic area, and eight tennis courts with four lights. The Ernest J. Parker Park (Northside) includes public swimming pool, bathhouse, pavilion, softball field #4, two tennis courts with lights and four outdoor basketball courts. Also visit the Altamaha River for fun and relaxing day of boating, fishing or picnicking. Lake Mayers, located approximately nine miles West of Baxley, just off to U.S. Highway 341 is also a great location for picnicking and boating.
Government: There are three incorporated cities in Appling County: Baxley, the county seat; Graham located nine miles West of Baxley on U.S. Highway #341 and Surrency located ten miles East of Baxley on U.S. Highway #341. Each city is governed by a mayor and a city council. The county government consists of the Appling County Commissioners and a chairman.
Climate: Average winter temperatures in Appling County range from the 40’s while summers quite often stay in the 90’s. The county is situated 211 feet above sea level and receives an average of 50 inches of rain per year.
Communications: There are two radio stations located in the county:

Education: Appling County has one public school system (912) 367-8600 and one private school system; Appling Christian Academy, (912) 367-3004.
To register for school, take your child’s birth certificate, immunization records and previous school records to the school your child will be attending.
Higher education is available at the following locations: Altamaha Technical College, Baxley Campus located on Golden Isles West in Baxley and South Georgia College Douglas with classes on the campus of Appling County High School.
There is one Public Library in the county located on Oak Street in Baxley.
Healthcare: Appling County is home to Appling HealthCare System, 15 active physicians, five courtesy physicians, one orthodontist, three dentists, two veterinarians/animal hospitals and the Pavilion Nursing Home.

Support Services & Public Safety: Appling County is protected by the Appling Detention Center which houses the Appling Sheriff’s Department and Baxley Police Department. The City of Baxley has two fire stations and Appling County has nine volunteer fire departments. Our ISO rating is 6.

Water and sewage are supplied by the Cities of Baxley, Graham, and Surrency. A deposit of $50 is required for water with an additional $50 required for sewage.

Automobile Tags: When moving to Appling County, new residents have 30 days to apply for automobile tags. Must bring proof of ownership and insurance to the Appling County Tax Commissioner’s office, located on Tippins Street in Baxley. For more information call (912) 367-8105.
