January 18th, 2007 : "Dallas Brass"

Dallas Brass Performance was a HUGE Success!

The Arts Council of Appling County presented a performance by Dallas Brass to an audience of 700 in the Appling County High School Fine Art Center on January 18, 7:30 p.m. The high-energy, six-member Dallas Brass ? five brass and percussion ?delighted the audience of all ages and kept the audience yearning for more. .   

This particular show was called American Musical Journey, as Dallas Brass played music from the time of George Washington to the present day.  It was a showcase of the gifts American composers have given to our nation and a delightful and an elegant display of the musical talents of this outstanding ensemble. The program included the sounds of Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Tijuana Brass, John Philip Sousa, music of Broadway, Hollywood and much more. It was family entertainment at its best and truly a night to remember!

Providing our community with an opportunity to attend a nationally recognized, top-notch musical performance is only part of the council?s efforts to promote the arts in Appling County. As part of the Arts Council?s Arts in Schools Program, Dallas Brass spent the afternoon with the students in a clinic and a rehearsal at Appling County Middle School and Appling County High School. The evening program included performances by our middle school and high school band students on stage with Dallas Brass. The opportunity for students to interact and perform with an ensemble of this caliber was enormous and rare ? perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime experience for our students.

Following the show, Dallas Brass met with the audience and students to sign autographs in the lobby.

Staging the Dallas Brass concert has been an extensive year-long collaborative effort between the Arts Council of Appling County and area schools. We would like to thank school administrators, Dr. Keith Johnson and Mr. Phil Murphy, for their encouragement and support. We extend a note of special appreciation to Mrs. Kara Augustson, Ms. Rachael Powell, and Mr. Jonathan Hickox, music educators at the middle school and high school, for their work on this project. We would also like to thank the students from the Appling County Middle School and Appling County High School for their excellent performance.
